The UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard promises to be a huge step towards our sector achieving net zero carbon.
One of the best things is that the energy and embodied carbon pass/fail metric limits are adapted to the specifics of each building – rather than a simple one-size-fits-all approach. This includes the building age, sector (office, retail, mixed-use etc), m2 of areas and their uses, construction works done, higher energy use areas, plans for future retrofit and the year of the assessment.
However, this level of adaptability means following detailed requirements in the NZCBS for calculating the pass/fail limits, which can be complex with plenty of room for error.
So, Lifecycle Sustainability created a tool to work out the pass/fail metric limits, as well as the categorisation of the building type, construction works types, sectors and subsectors. We are currently looking for volunteers to give it a road test and provide some feedback. Please do get in touch via the ‘contact us’ link below.
